A Joyful Prospect?
By Nella Verschuur (field worker)
During these weeks, the words "for the last time" are a recurring theme for me, as I will be leaving Stichting Bethlehem’s mission fields at the end of February 2026. "For the last time."

The last time
Would you like to write your last blog? This question throws me off, for what should I write about? Every topic feels like it is being discussed "for the last time." The last visit with Barbara, Thsolonga, Mmapula, Mamma Stefian, Mamma Safira, Blessing, Mamma Catherina, Miranda, Rebecca. The last team meeting. The last church service in Silverton. The last time going grocery shopping in South Africa. The last time...
Say goodbye
Sometimes it brings tears; other times it's manageable. I recall a moment with one of my local colleagues in class. The moment I told her I was really leaving South Africa. There were tears in her eyes, and in mine. Certainly, after living in South Africa for three and a half years, deep connections have developed. You especially feel that when you have to say goodbye.

Prayer
Together we folded our hands in prayer to ask the Lord if He would remain in Hammanskraal and accompany me. He is not bound by time or place. We talked a little longer. Yes, we have to say goodbye, but what a miracle it would be if we both received that true faith in Jesus Christ. Then, in God's time, there will be a joyful reunion before God's throne. Serving Him, day and night, without sin.
For the last time
For the last time.
A life of saying goodbye.
The life of a missionary?
Or perhaps it is characteristic of all of our lives?
At some point, everything will be "for the last time."
One day we will draw our last breath.
Is that a joyful prospect for you, and for me?
